Detroit, Michigan: MMD’s “Moon and More” Celebrates Love, Music and Memories
On October 17, 2026, the Marathi Mandal of Detroit (MMD) presented “Moon and More,” a special couples’ program celebrating the magic of the Kojagiri full moon through music, drama, poetry, and humor.
1. Inspired by the theme “Same Moon, New Stories,” the evening brought together nostalgia, romance, and relatable moments from everyday life.
2. MMD Project Manager Medha Karkare, President Mansi Dahanukar, and Vice President Prajakta Kulkarni welcomed the audience.
3. With the Mandal’s Golden Jubilee approaching in 2027, GJC Committee members Kiran Ingle and Shardul Athalye invited everyone to join the milestone celebrations.
4. Conceived by Sushant Khopkar, with musical composition by Abhijay Kane, the production opened with the evocative song “Sharad Sundar Chanderi Raat.”
5. Stories of love and longing unfolded on stage, spanning generations and connecting couples from different eras and backgrounds.
6. Humorous theatrical presentations captured familiar family situations, earning enthusiastic applause and laughter.
7. Melodies such as “Chand Tu Nabhala,” “Sawar Lu,” and “Tenu Prank Sikhawa” added romance, nostalgia, and playful energy.
8. Sushma Khopkar’s poem “Gulmohar” brought a reflective touch to the evening, celebrating memories and the passage of time.
9. The audience was transported back to cherished community gatherings through the warmth of traditional saffron masala milk.
10. A surprise rap performance added a contemporary twist, blending seamlessly with the evening’s classic melodies.
11. The finale explored love rekindled after 25–30 years, delivering an emotional conclusion that left the audience momentarily spellbound.
12. MMD’s talented in-house band elevated the production with keyboards, guitar, tabla, congas, and Octapad, complementing both original and digitally produced arrangements.
13. The three-hour program concluded at 7 p.m., followed by a takeaway meal prepared by the food team.
14. More than an entertainment event, “Moon and More” celebrated shared memories, enduring relationships, and the power of music to connect generations.
15. The evening proved that while the moon remains the same, every couple has a different story—and MMD made this Kojagiri celebration truly shine.
