Musicians Pay Tribute to Ustad Zakir Hussain at Gurupurnima Event in Michigan
A special evening of Indian classical music in Michigan honored the legacy of legendary tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain during a Gurupurnima event organized by his senior disciple, Pandit Shyam Kane. The program began with Pandit Shyam Kane sharing fond memories of the late maestro, reflecting on his musical legacy and the inspiration he continues to provide to musicians and students. The evening featured vocal performances by Divya Khandekar, a disciple of Smt. Apoorva Gokhale, and Samarth Nagarkar, a disciple of Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar. The performances were followed by a tabla solo by Pandit Shyam Kane, accompanied by his student Sudhir Rao. Vikas Falnikar provided harmonium accompaniment, adding depth to the musical presentations. The gathering brought together members of Michigan's classical music community, whose attentive listening and enthusiastic support contributed to the evening's memorable atmosphere. The organizers expressed their gratitude for the encouragement and affection extended by the audience, making the occasion a meaningful celebration of the guru-disciple tradition and a heartfelt musical remembrance of Ustad Zakir Hussain.
